深圳，你实在应该叫“工业设计之都”，你实在的不应该叫“设计之都”。各位，不信，每年大家可以统计一下，深圳的报纸、电视台、各路设计展、各路媒体，唯工业设计马首是瞻。看其它设计，有多少能入你媒体主流!好，无论建筑、室内、平面，佼佼者少吗？论历史渊源，只有工业设计源远流长吗？打造一个城市的设计文化的人文，是仅靠这一个种类吗？论创造经济效益，建筑、室内设计、服装设计等等，比工业设计创造的效益低吗？好，论钱，我们俗，俗不可耐。

谈设计界影响力。大家均知深圳各个领域的设计人才翘楚众多，无置可否。在此，仅提醒一句：“设计之都”可是一个现代文化范畴的事儿，跟钱是八竿子打不着的事儿。如果天真的认为，八竿子打得着的事儿，那么我告诉你们，你是伪的，而且必定会陪养出一帮设计伪军，水军，山寨军。你永远也不会与巴黎、米兰等城市齐头并进，同台光辉。因为这已是二十一世纪的第二个十年上半段了，再不明白，这已是2014年了。未来的设计文化不需要这些。不信，好，谁说了都不算，时间说了算。反正买单的也不是当下的我们。

在此，并无嘲贬“工业设计”之意。亦非文人相轻式狭隘，本章所言，与工业设计本身无关。本文所指，是我们郑重向国际申请并已经称呼了很多年的“设计之都”的——深圳。当下，实在的应叫，“工业设计之都”。

                                                       Shenzhen, Capital of Industrial Design

Shenzhen, you shall indeed be named as “Capital of Industrial Design” rather than “Capital of Design”. Those not convinced can take a look. How many Shenzhen newspapers, television stations, media focus only on industrial design? How many on the rest sphere of design? In the field of architecture, interior design, graphic design, do we lack of talents? Historically speaking, is industrial design the only one had its glory days? Building up design culture of a city, is industrial design the only type contributes? Talking about economic benefit, are architecture, interior design, fashion design etc. creating less returns than industrial design? Yes, we are so tacky to talk about money.  

Let’s switch to influence then. We all know, undoubtedly, Shenzhen design is packed with talents. Here, as a reminder, “Capital of Design” is a matter of modern culture category, nothing to do with money. If you innocently assume it is about money, let me tell you, you are fake, and destined to bring up a bunch of fake designers. You will never walk side by side with Paris and Milan or stand on the same stage with them. It is 2014, the second decade of 21 century already. Future design does not need fakeness. Let no other but time decides. We won’t be the one to pay for your bills.

No intension to demean industrial design or to be narrow-minded. What’s mentioned here has no concern with industrial design itself, but refers to Shenzhen, which we have been calling for years, the “Capital of Design”.
