Classic Edwardian architecture is combined with state-of-the-art technology in the Town Hall Hotel by rare.
Bethnal Green in London will shortly see the completion of a swanky place to stay named Town Hall Hotel. Rare architects provided a contemporary extension for the classically styled building, as well as refurbishing the existing structure.
The client wanted the former town hall to have a modern, luxury feel, but insisted that the old building be sympathetically restored. Rare used cutting edge design technologies to create an abstract façade for the extension. The laser-cut, powder coated aluminium skin has no visible doors or windows, thus forming a striking backdrop for the original hotel.
The extension sits atop of the hotel’s flat roof and provides views over the adjoining buildings. It’s graphic pattern is reflected in the interior of the hotel, from radiator and air conditioning covers to decorative wall panels.
