Dutch Design Week 2010: design studio Moon/En/Co curated a pop-up exhibition restaurant for the fifth consecutive year during Dutch Design Week last month,  featuring pieces by designers including Kiki van Eijk and Maarten Baas.

Called Eat Drink Design, food was served on a table by Kranen/Gille, with some dishes being cooked in a slow cooker designed by Maarten Baptist.

Here’s some more information from the organisers:

Successful first anniversary during Dutch Design Week
Eat Drink Design tastes for more

Food and design go hand in hand. With Eat Drink Design, a satellite during the Dutch Design Week, design studio Moon/en/co gathered designers, businesses and government for the fifth consecutive year in a unique setting of Dutch design and the authentic cuisine of Sot-l’yLaisse Edwin Severijn.

The first anniversary of the pop-up restaurant and its exhibition proved a great success. It really tastes for more!

Eat Drink Design showed Analog Digital Clock by Maarten Baas, Lucky Love Chair by Maarten Baptist, and selected work by Joost van Bleiswijk en Kiki van Eijk.

Other notable items: the resourceful leather work of newcomers Klaas Kuiken and Sjoerd Vroonland (Car Chair and Kitchenware Stool), the series of chairs ABChairs by Roeland Otten (of course presented on paper) and Kaskast by Marije van der Park, which challenges us to think about other ways to grow food.

Jeroen Vinken exhibited his curtain collection Mazzo, awarded last week with a Dutch Design Award.

Furthermore the installation of Grondvormen artists Nienke Sybrandy, Sander Boeijink and Jeroen Wand drew a lot of attention.

The amazing labyrinth of tubes and pipes distilled a mysterious elixir from plants.

For those who believe in it, the mysterious beverage might have worked. For others: it’s eye-catching art.

The unique dining table by Kranen/Gille in the middle of the exhibition was fully booked all ten evenings.

Chef Edwin Severijn improvised dishes like sea urchin with summer purslane or veal cheek with truffle and trompettes noir (stewed in Double Dip Slow Cooker by Maarten Baptist).

They were served straight from the Dtile kitchen to the table, including napkins by Jeroen Vinken, cutlery of Royal VKB and N-Gispen chairs by Gerrit Rietveld.

The Dutch Design Award jury, Eindhoven’s Mayor and Aldermen, the Centraal Museum Utrecht, various companies and a large number of designers – they were all at Eat Drink Design last week.

In between the courses was ample time for personal meeting and comprehensive explanation.

Curator Annemoon Geurts is more than happy with the result: “With about 10,000 visitors in ten days I consider it a successful anniversary.

It was a tremendous challenge to shape our sphere and vision in such an impressive space of over one thousand square meter.” Thus Studio Moon/en/co has big future plans.

If Eat Drink Design returns next year’s Dutch Design Week, it will prolong in a new form.

But to give a brief idea of what to expect: “We’re developing an international platform with exhibitions and projects, to contribute to a full experience of the creative industries”
